Biggest challenge for 2007

Profitable growth and reducing operating expenses.

Best advice

You have to be present with your staff, in their branch, visiting and asking them what you can do for them, coaching them. It is difficult to make time to get out from behind the desk, but it makes a huge difference to the staff. What you talk about is what is important to them.

Greatest benefit of Council membership

The great ideas that come from the Listserv and the contacts available to help with anything you are working on. Everyone is so helpful and the ideas are great. I love the energy and ideas that comes from sharing with other colleagues. I am always impressed with the ideas that are shared and the talented people in this industry.

Best part of my job

Working with the staff to develop their skills and coach them to exceed the expectations they have of themselves. I love to help them develop, it gives me great satisfaction (although sometimes I think they teach me more than I teach them).

Hardest part of my job

When I see more potential in an employee and care more than they do about their own development. Sometimes it is just not a good match.

Hobbies and interests

I love to work in my garden. It is just like therapy for me. I also love reading and I love a stack of new magazines to browse through. I walk to stay healthy.

People would be surprised to learn that . . .

I was a dance teacher for over 18 years. I loved the kids and taught all kinds of dancing including Tahitian and Hawaiian. Now I march with the Blue Water Chamber Marching Executives, briefcase and all!

Recent books

Savannah Breeze and Monday Morning Leadership.

Life goal not yet accomplished

Owning a little cottage, in the woods, maybe by the water. Of course it will have a garden.

Something that always makes me laugh

Kids, kids laughing and having fun. They can brighten up anyone's day.

If I had an extra hour in the day . . .

I would work in my garden and plant another flower bed. It's the best!
