New HR/TD Council White Paper Shows How Effective Rewards & Recognition Programs Help Credit Unions

A new CUNA HR/TD Council white paper, "Recognition Programs that Work," shows how timely and relevant recognition and rewards programs can play an even larger role keeping valued credit union employees who will serve members especially well during difficult economic times.

Credit unions are faced with formidable challenges and opportunities today. In the race to cut costs and streamline operations, it can be tempting for them to consider curbing 'soft' employee benefits. The study explains the strategic importance of rewards and recognitions that engage employees, keep replacement costs low, and boost morale. It covers types of recognitions and principles that work by highlighting case studies from various credit union human resources managers.

"In the current work environment at credit unions where uncertainty can be rampant, the more that the HR staff together with management and the CEO can do to create an air of normalcy the faster the credit union can regain its productivity, increase its innovative capabilities, have employees that are more engaged in the workplace and prepare itself for the new challenges that lie ahead," said Jennifer Morse, Chair of the CUNA HR/TD Council and VP of Human Resources at  Empower FCU in Syracuse, N.Y. "It's time that we all look inward and recognize our most valuable resource is our employees who should be recognized and appreciated appropriately."

CUNA Council members are entitled to complimentary copies of these and more than 200 white papers; non-members may purchase the white papers for a price of $50 per copy.

The paper is available online in the white paper section of each council site – select the “HR/TD” tab.
